Have these ready
- Your NIN and your BVN.
- A government ID with your photo: an international passport, a driver’s licence, a voter’s card, or a national ID card or NIN slip with your photo.
- A phone or laptop camera for a selfie.
- A recent proof of address in your own name, such as a utility bill.
- The bank account your pay goes into, and its online banking login.
The steps
- Confirm your identity
- Your NIN and BVN are matched to the name you gave.
- Upload a government ID
- A photo of your ID, checked to be genuine. It is kept with your files, and a lender you apply to sees it.
- Prove it’s really you
- A selfie, matched to your ID. Only the result is kept, never the selfie.
- Your credit history
- With your permission, Acreed reads your record at a licensed credit bureau using your BVN. If you have never borrowed, this part starts from a fixed mark.
- Your work and pay
- What kind of income you have, who you work for (or what you do), your job title, when you started, and what you take home each month after tax.
- Your home address
- Your address, when you moved in, whether you own it, rent it, live in a family home or have housing from your work, and your proof of address. A person at Acreed confirms it.
- Connect your bank account
- Read-only, through Mono. Acreed can never move your money.
- Review & issue
- Check everything, then press Generate my certificate.
Each check runs as you go. You can stop at any step and pick up exactly where you left off.
What your bank statement is read for
Acreed reads the pay that arrives, your spending, what you already repay other lenders, what you save and your balance. It checks the pay you stated against the pay the bank shows. Stating less than the bank shows is never held against you.
Betting is read too, because heavy betting counts in your money habits. It is never shown to a lender.
Questions
Why do you need the account my pay goes into?
Pay that arrives month after month is what a loan is repaid from. An account your pay never reaches cannot show it.
